Tropical Storm Mario formed on Friday, Sept. 12, off the Pacific coast of Mexico, according to an afternoon advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
The storm was moving toward the west-northwest at about14 mph on Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, and this general motion was expected to continue through the weekend, forecasters said. On the forecast track, the center of Mario is expected to move parallel to, but offshore of, the southwestern coast of mainland Mexico through early Saturday, Sept. 13.
Mario, the 13th named storm of the 2025 eastern Pacific hurricane season, is a "tiny" storm with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 25 miles north of its center, the NHC said. The storm is expected to bring two to four inches of rain, with some areas of southern Mexico receiving up to six inches, through Sunday, Sept. 14.
According to AccuWeather, as Mario moves along, it should lose wind intensity next week. The only impact to the United States would be tropical moisture carried northward into the U.S. Southwest.
