The retired NFL quarterback shared his perspective on why he should be able to be both an NFL analyst and a minority owner

Tom Brady is batting back criticism regarding his jobs as both a TV analyst and professional football team minority owner.

In a bonus edition of his weekly newsletter, the future Hall of Fame quarterback argued that he should be able to pursue both, and borrowed a phrase from former NFL coach Bill Parcells (and later co-oped by Brady's former coach Bill Belichick) — that it all comes down to "doing your job."

"We are living through a period of great paranoia and distrust," Brady, 48, wrote. "In politics, media, sports, business and especially wherever those worlds intersect."

The Fox Sports lead analyst then likened the pushback he has received after he was seen sitting in the coaches' booth during a recent Las Vegas Raiders game to a byproduct of living "through uncertain and untrusting times."

"When you live through uncertain and untrusting times like we are today, it is very easy to watch a person's passions and profession intersect, and to believe you're looking at some sort of dilemma," Brady wrote. "Because when you're blinded by distrust, it's hard to see anything other than self-interest."

The seven-time Super Bowl champ continued his defense and added that his aim is to "entertain and inform" as he sits alongside FOX play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt for his commentating job, while in his role as a part-owner of the Raiders, his goal is to help "refresh and reinvigorate" the franchise.

"As a broadcaster, I want everyone who tunes into FOX on Sunday afternoons to feel like they got their money's worth for the three hours they entrust to our entire team," he wrote in part. "Those are precious hours for busy, hardworking people. We owe them a return on that investment, which is to do our jobs to the best of our abilities. For me, it's to entertain and inform and to help create a great viewing experience by drawing on the deep well of knowledge and wisdom I have gained from playing high level football for nearly thirty years."

Brady made a special appearance in the coaches' booth on Monday, Sept. 15 for the Raiders-Los Angeles Chargers matchup since the game did not fall on a Sunday, when he is busy with his job as a broadcaster on Fox.

Brady's job as an analyst means he faces some restrictions in his role with the Raiders. In August, the Los Angeles Times reported that Brady was initially prohibited from attending production meetings, but that rule was relaxed by the NFL. Instead, Brady is allowed to attend meetings, but only remotely.

Last week, the league said in a statement that Brady's work in the coaches' booth does not conflict with his work in the other booth.

"There are no policies that prohibit an owner from sitting in the coaches' booth or wearing a headset during a game," the league said, via NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Brady concluded his own explanation by professing his love of the game.

"I love football. At its core it is a game of principles," he wrote. "And with all the success it has given me, I feel I have a moral and ethical duty to the sport; which is why the point where my roles in it intersect is not actually a point of conflict, despite what the paranoid and distrustful might believe."
