Lucy Liu is set to lead the upcoming Peacock crime drama "Superfakes," Variety has learned.

The show was originally announced back in January with a series order. The logline states, "A small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer (Liu) enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family."

Liu will also executive produce in addition to starring.

Liu is best known for her film work, which includes starring in features such as "Kill Bill," two "Charlie's Angels" films, "Chicago," "Set It Up," Presence" and "Red One." Her TV roles include "Ally McBeal" at Fox, "Elementary" at CBS (which aired for seven seasons), and "Why Women Kill" at Paramount+ (née CBS All Access). She will next be seen in the indie feature "Rosemead," which she produced and stars in, due out in theaters this December. Liu has also been active as a director in recent years, helming multiple episodes of "Elementary" as well as episodes of shows like "Why Women Kill," "American Born Chinese," and "New Amsterdam."

She is repped by Framework, CAA and Schreck Rose.

The series hails from creator Alice Ju, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts. Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush also executive produce, along with Liu. A24 and UCP will produce.

Ju previously won an Emmy as part of the producing team behind the hit Netflix series "Beef," on which she was a writer and co-executive producer. Ju also served as a writer and consulting producer on the popular Peacock series "Poker Face" starring Natasha Lyonne, whom she also worked with on the Netflix series "Russian Doll."
