Kristin Cabot's soon-to-be ex-husband was also on a date at the very same concert where she was seen on camera in the arms of her then-boss, Andy Byron — sparking a memeable moment that consumed the internet — a source close to her tells PEOPLE.

It's an odd wrinkle to an odd story that continues, months later, to captivate many in the public.

Cabot and Byron were with friends at the Coldplay show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., on July 16 when they were shown together on the "kiss cam" with his arms wrapped around her.

Both promptly tried to hide from view, and Chris Martin joked from stage that they might be having an "affair."

Footage of the incident went instantly viral and Byron, the CEO of tech company Astronomer, and Cabot, Astronomer's chief people officer, resigned.

The company said after Byron stepped down that "our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met."

Kristin Cabot is married to Andrew Cabot, the CEO of a rum distillery and a member of one of Boston's most storied families (who, it's been said, "talk only to God" because of their social standing).

Byron is also reportedly married.

Kristin filed for divorce from Andrew about a month after the Coldplay incident but they were already separated before the concert. They each have children from prior marriages.

In a statement to PEOPLE through his spokeswoman earlier this month, Andrew confirmed their separation and divorce and asked to be left alone.

"Andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they've always valued," the spokeswoman said.

Since then, a source close to Kristin has spoken out to clarify what they called the "misinformation" about what happened at the concert between her and Andy Byron.

"Kristin and Andy [Byron] had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair," the source insisted to PEOPLE.

"It was inappropriate to be hugging your boss at a concert, and she accepts full responsibility for it," the source said. "But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job — all of that is unfair."

As for Kristin's husband, the source said, "Kristin and Andrew [Cabot] had been living apart and one of the many misconceptions in the media is that [he] was in Japan and blindsided, when in fact he was at the Coldplay concert on a date."

Kristin and Byron have not commented on what happened. Andrew's spokeswoman declined to comment to PEOPLE for this story.

"These are real people and real families," the source close to Kristin told PEOPLE. "The way people have taken a lot of enjoyment at their expense, it's hard to see."
