The beloved star Gino the gorilla has died at the age of 44. Gino was the oldest gorilla living at Disney's Animal Kingdom and has been living at the park since its opening in 1998.
On the morning of September 17th, 2025, Disney confirmed the sad news of Gino's passing in a moving Facebook post, paying their respects to the very-loved gorilla.

"We are heartbroken to share the passing of Gino, our beloved 44-year-old western lowland gorilla," Disney wrote in the Facebook post. "For nearly 30 years, Gino touched countless lives at Disney's Animal Kingdom with his playful spirit, gentle humor, and steady presence as a devoted father and troop leader."

'RIP Gino!'
Comments flooded in on the Facebook post about Gino's death, many people sharing their fond memories of the gorilla and also sending well wishes to the Animal Kingdom cast members who cared for him. Gino really left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
"We have very fond memories of Gino from our many visits to AK. Thinking of all those Cast Members who have cared for him and loved him throughout his life," wrote one Facebook user.
"Thinking of all of the ASE team past and present. And all of the DAK cast. Gino was loved by all. His personality was one to be remembered. RIP Gino!" commented someone else.
"My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of the animal keepers and care-takers! This is a hard loss, and I know they are very saddened by the loss of this wonderful gorilla. Thank you for all you do to take care of these amazing creatures!" said a third person.
Gino would have turned 45 in December. Disney says the gorilla leaves behind a profound legacy with his children, his contributions to gorilla care and conservation and the beautiful memories he made with cast members and Animal Kingdom guests.
"Gino leaves behind an incredible legacy – 14 offspring, global contributions to gorilla care and conservation, and the lasting memories of every cast member and guest he inspired," Disney said. "Though he would have turned 45 this December, Gino's story will live on in the future of his species and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Thank you, Gino. You will always be part of our family."
