Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathé were college sweethearts.
Brown rose to fame with his role as Randall Pearson on This Is Us and has starred in films such as American Fiction and Marshall. Bathé has also built a successful career in acting, appearing in shows like Empire and The Rookie.
The couple first met during their time at Stanford University in the '90s. They eloped in 2006 and went on to have two children together.
In addition to supporting each other on the red carpet, Brown and Bathé often share glimpses of their relationship on social media. In May 2023, Brown honored Bathé for Mother's Day by sharing a photo of himself kissing his wife on the cheek on Instagram.
"Thank you for my children, Angel! There is no better Queen to Captain the ship of The Family Brown. We love you to the moon and back, & #HappyMothersDay😘❤️," he wrote in the caption.

Bathé is an accomplished actress and has appeared in several TV series, including All Rise, First Wives Club, The Endgame and Empire. She also starred in films such as Sylvie's Love and Boy in the Walls.
The actress has acted alongside her husband on two occasions, in recurring roles on This Is Us and Army Wives. Despite their brief stints as costars, Bathé told E! News in September 2017 that they know their limits when it comes to working together.
"Sterling and I have been in the game for a long time. We go back to college," she said. "We've learned that there are certain minefields and pitfalls in our relationship, like a slalom, we just move right past them. Rehearsing together is one of those things."

Bathé and Brown met during their freshman year at Stanford University in the '90s. The couple told Entertainment Tonight in January 2018 that they lived in the same dorm and later both auditioned for the play Joe Turner's Come and Gone.
"I was mesmerized," Bathé said about Brown's audition. "Everybody's like, 'Oh, Sterling is amazing. He's amazing.' And I'm like, 'He hasn't even scratched the surface.' At 18 years old, he got on the stage, and wasn't even off book, and was Joe Turner."
Brown added that the pair were friends before their relationship turned romantic. "She got cast in the play as well, and we would ride bikes to rehearsal, and we would just talk," he said. "We found out that we were both from St. Louis. We didn't know that we were both from St. Louis, like, our parents went to rival high schools. We were born in the same hospital."
The couple dated on and off in college before calling it quits when they graduated from Stanford in 1998. During an appearance on The Talk, Brown shared that he and Bathé eventually rekindled their relationship.
"We broke up for three and a half years before we came back into each other's lives," he said.

Bathé and Brown eloped in 2006 before hosting a larger wedding a year later. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in June 2023, the actress said the best part of their nuptials was the food.
"Because, you know, ok look, can I just say sometimes you go to weddings and you get the winner-winner chicken dinner and you're like, 'I pay. Ok, it's fine,' " she said. "But I wanted people to remember their experience — their culinary experience. So I was happy about that. The food was good."
With over 15 years of marriage under their belt, the couple told PEOPLE in September 2024 that the secret to having a lasting relationship was to spend minimal amounts of time apart.
"I think we try not to go longer than three weeks without seeing each other. So if I'm on location and she's on location, somebody's going to come home or somebody's going to go visit," Brown said. "It used to be a six-week rule and I can tell all the newlyweds, too long. Six weeks is too long."
He added, "It's easy to, especially when kids get involved, it's very easy to pour all of your energy, time, love, consideration into them and neglect your partner. And so you have to be very conscientious and intentional with regards to that."

Bathé and Brown are the parents of two sons. They welcomed their older son, Andrew, in 2011 and their younger son, Amaré, in 2015.
Speaking with PEOPLE in September 2024, the couple shared that one parenting rule they have is to let their kids decide who they want to be.
"There's this idea I think that both of us agree on, most of the time, is that they're not to be molded into versions of us. That they kind of are who they are when they come to you," Brown said. "And we're just trying to shepherd them to become the best version of who they already are, right?"
Bathé added that the pair discussed their parenting views before having their sons. "A lot of things about parenting we got settled and agreed on before the children came, so whatever big issues we may or may not have had, we had hashed them out," she said.

Bathé's mother, Clare Bathé, was also a performer. She was an actress and a member of the '70s disco band Machine.
During a March 2022 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Bathé shared that she "grew up backstage on Broadway" watching her mom perform.
"That's all I knew," she said. "And I think the good part is that I never attached myself to the glamour of what it was like to be on stage. I always attached myself to the glamour of what it was like to be off stage."
Bathé added that she "fell in love" with "the community, the camaraderie and the work" of being on Broadway rather than the fame.
"I knew that it was work. I knew that you had to stretch and warm up before you got on that stage," she said. "And, so that's the part that I think I remember the most, and not the glamour of it."

The couple launched their joint podcast, We Don't Always Agree, in September 2024, where they share how they navigate relationships, fame, parenting and more.
Speaking with PEOPLE in September 2024, Brown and Bathé shared that they started the podcast to show how people often have to work to find common ground.
"We're doing the podcast so that we can, not necessarily help others because that's so grandiose because I don't know what kind of help [we can provide], but it is an offering," Bathé said. "A lot of people have questions about us and to us, there are things that we're figuring out and we always find that what's more interesting is what we're figuring out rather than what we already have nailed down."
Brown added, "If you want to call us goals, it's not because we got all the answers, but it's because we are committed to trying to contemplate the questions as deeply as possible together."

Bathé launched her own production company, Down on Maple Productions, in 2020. During an interview with 1883 Magazine in April 2022, she said creating the company was "unplanned."
"In a very roundabout way, I had done a one-woman show with two friends of mine coming to see it," she said. "One of the friends was married to a man in development and production and a couple of years after that he was in a position to offer me a production deal through a company that he was working with at the time at CBS/Viacom."
Bathé added, "I was able to sit down and think about what voices I wanted to hear and what kind of people I wanted to nurture with this. I see my production company as an incubator for voices and talents that may or may not get a traditional first look."

Brown and Bathé often make red carpet appearances together and aren't shy about sharing their love for each other. In January 2018, the actor gave his wife a shout-out during his acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards.
"I don't want to run out of time. Let me thank my wife. I love you so much, thank you for supporting me so much. My kids, Andrew and Amare, daddy loves you," Brown said.
During a February 2024 appearance on the Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast, the couple shared that they always support each other's career opportunities.
"For both of us, I was like, whenever an opportunity comes, when an opportunity comes for me, she's like, 'Go get it, cap,' " Brown said. "And when I was like, you need to go to New York, whatever, we figure this thing out, and that's beautiful."
