49ers GM John Lynch says WR Brandon Aiyuk 'not close' to returning from injury

Another week with more injury news for the San Francisco 49ers.

Days after the 49ers lost star edge rusher Nick Bosa for the season with an ACL injury, San Francisco general manager John Lynch gave an update on wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

It was neither positive nor negative on his return.

"We'll be a better team when Brandon's out there so we look forward to that day but it's not close," Lynch said on KNBR today. "He's got to continue to hit markers but he is tracking well. He's working hard."

Aiyuk tore both his ACL and MCL in Week 7 last season and hasn't seen the field since.

Lynch told KNBR that any injury updates wouldn't be kept from fans and media.

"When we have some more information on that, we'll be forthright on that," Lynch said.

With Aiyuk and top tight end George Kittle out with injury, the load in the receiving game has gone to veteran Jauan Jennings and former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall.

Pearsall ranks third in the NFL in receiving yards through three weeks. San Francisco took him No. 31 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and Lynch is satisfied with how he's looked in his sophomore season.

"Man, he attacked this offseason in a really good fashion," he said. "He worked his tail off and now you're seeing it come to fruition... I think the thing that's been so impressive is his endurance. He's been playing a lot of snaps and he... just keeps going."

The team will get some reinforcements for Week 4 at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Veteran wide receiver Demarcus Robinson will be back from his three-game suspension to start the season.
