Medvedev berated the umpire and urged the crowd to "boo" the decision, which was made after a photographer walked on the court during Bonzi's first serve
Bonzi won the match, and Medvedev later smashed his racket in frustration

Russian tennis pro and former champion Daniil Medvedev went viral over the weekend after he threw a fit at the US Open, smashing his racket at the end of the match and earlier delaying play for six minutes.
Medvedev, 29, became enraged after his opponent, French player Benjamin Bonzi, was given the opportunity to have a second first serve after missing his first when a cameraman illegally walked onto the court. The umpire allowed Bonzi, 29, the second chance, which clearly upset Medvedev.
Medvedev encouraged the crowd at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, N.Y., to loudly "boo" the decision and was heard asking the umpire, Greg Allensworth, "Are you a man?"

He then said into a microphone, "He wants to go home, guys. He doesn't want to be here. He gets paid by the match, not by the hour."
As he backed away from the umpire's chair, Medvedev was heard shouting, "What did Reilly Opelka say? What did Reilly Opelka say?"
According to ESPN, Opelka, an American tennis player, called Allensworth the "worst ump on tour" and was penalized by the ATP [Association of Tennis Professionals] Tour back in February.

In all, Medvedev's fit delayed the match about six minutes. Medvedev was also seen making several lewd gestures toward his opponent throughout the match. Ultimately, Bonzi came out victorious in a win that took until 1 a.m.
Medvedev was then seen sitting on a bench and smashing his racket apart in frustration. He did not stop until it was completely destroyed. Medvedev's wife, Daria Medvedeva, was seen walking out of the arena amid her husband's final fit. The tennis pro remained seated on the court while Bonzi attempted to accept his victory.

"I tried to stay calm, to stay in the match, but it was not easy," Bonzi told reporters after his win. "And at the end, yeah, I gave all I have, all my heart on the court and I have the win today."
After the chaos of the match, Bonzi added, "It's kind of crazy, this match. For me, it's like my best victory ever."

As for Medvedev's response to the umpire's call, Bonzi called out his opponent.
"I mean, the rule is the rule. The guy went on the court between two serves," Bonzi said. "I mean, it's not my call to say first serve. And I think, yes, Daniil started it, and he put oil on the fire."
Medvedev later explained his frustration, saying per ESPN, "I was not upset with the photographer. I was upset with the decision. The delay from the photographer was probably four seconds and a half. I'm not sure it's enough for a [first] serve."
