WASHINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - The United States rescued an airman caught behind enemy lines after Iran shot down his F-15 fighter jet, the ‌U.S. government said early on Sunday, resolving a major crisis for President Donald Trump ‌with the war on Iran in its sixth week.

"Over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History," according to a statement from Trump posted by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on X.

Trump said the crew member was injured but "he will be just fine."

The airman, who Trump said held the rank of colonel, was the second member of ‌a two-person crew of an F-15 that Iran said on Friday had been brought down by its air defenses. Reuters reported on Friday that the first member of the crew had been recovered, triggering a high-profile search for the remaining airman by both Iran and the United States.

Iranian officials had called on citizens to help locate the remaining American, hoping to gain leverage against Washington in the war Trump and Israel launched on February 28. He has threatened to escalate the conflict in the ‌coming days with attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure.

A hostage crisis could have shifted American public perception of a conflict that, according to opinion polls, has already struggled to win popular support.

Trump did not provide details on the rescue but said it was the first time in memory that two U.S. pilots had been rescued, separately, deep in enemy territory.

The high-stakes U.S. rescue effort, which involved dozens ‌of military aircraft, encountered fierce resistance from Iran.

Reuters reported on Friday that two Black Hawk helicopters involved in the search effort were hit by Iranian fire but made it out of Iranian airspace. In a separate incident, an A-10 ‌Warthog fighter aircraft was hit and crashed over Kuwait, with the pilot ejecting, the officials said. The degree of any injuries among the crew of the aircraft remained unclear.

Still, Trump was triumphant.

"The fact that we were able to pull off both of these operations, without a SINGLE American ‌killed, or even wounded, just proves once again, that we have achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies," he said in his statement.

'SNL' takes on Pam Bondi's firing by President Trump in cold open

"Saturday Night Live" is bidding farewell to Attorney GeneralPam Bondi.

USA TODAY

The showkicked off its April 4 episodewith a sketch tackling the news thatPresident Donald Trump fired Bondi. In an unusual move for "SNL," though, it didn't feature James Austin Johnson's impression of Trump, who has become a cold open staple.

Instead, it depicted an NCAA Final Four post-game show and centered on Charles Barkley, played by Kenan Thompson, going off script several times to offer potentially controversial commentary on various non-basketball topics, including Bondi's ouster.

"As attorney general,Pam Bondiwas, and I don't say this often, terrible," Thompson as Barkley said. "It is a shame when somebody gets fired, but we should all be glad that that freckle-chested dragon lady is gone."

'SNL UK':New show says Trump wants to 'start World War III,' mocks Prince Andrew

Not long after, Bondi, played by Ashley Padilla, entered to offer a rebuttal.

"The truth is, I was amazing at my job, and I am proud to say I made history as the first woman ever to be fired as attorney general," she said. "I shattered that glass exit door!"

But Padilla's Bondi quickly broke down in tears, saying that she already misses her job and declaring, "They threw my headshot in the trash like it was the Epstein files!"

The sketch also brieflyreferenced a recent reportfrom the Daily Mail, which has not been independently verified by USA TODAY, that former Department of Homeland Security SecretaryKristi Noem's husband Bryon Noem practices cross-dressing. Thompson's Barkley said that Noem's husband "looks like he's starring in 'Big Momma's House 4.' "

Another one of Barkley's hot takes in the sketch was that theArtemis II space missionis a waste of money. "They ain't even going to the moon! They're just flying around the moon," he said. "What's the point of that? It's like telling your kids you're going to Disney World, and then you just take them to Goofy Lot D and go home."

Who will host 'SNL'?The show tapped this Emmy-winning star to make hosting debut in April

Jack White (from left), Jack Black and Marcello Hernández in a promotional spot for "Saturday Night Live" on April 2, 2026.

This week's "SNL" cold open was a break in tradition after several years of Easter weekend episodes that began with a sketch where Johnson as Trump delivered an Easter message. The episode also came just a few weeks after a cold open wherePadilla played another fired memberof the Trump administration, starring as Noem in the first episode after her ouster.

Jack Black hosted "SNL" with musical guest Jack White. This was the first new episode since March 14; the show went on a brief hiatus following itsHarry Styles episode.

"SNL" will be back with another new episode next week, withColman Domingo making his hosting debutalongside musical guest Anitta. The season will wrap sometime in May.

The actor and JC Kilcoyne were shooting a scene in which their characters had guns fired at them, according toDeadline.

However, the glass sheet shattered and the actors ended up falling backwards.

The crew quickly came over to check on Majors and Kilcoyne, who reportedly fell six feet to the ground.

According to sources, after the incident on the South Carolina set, Kilcoyne received stitches "all over his hands."

The actor's reps told Deadline that he is "doing well and was taken care of immediately by production."

They added that he "did not feel unsafe on set and continued to have a positive experience working on the project."

Kilcoyne has since wrapped filming the movie, which hails from Dallas Sonnier's production company, Bonfire Legend, and The Daily Wire.

Page Six reached out to reps for Jonathan Majors, The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend for comment.

However, the incident is just one of many that led the crew to walk out and strike, per Deadline.

Props fell on crew members, black mold infested one location and despite a contractor's warnings of asbestos, producers still chose to shoot in that location.

On March 26, following the window incident, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) called a strike against the production.

Dallas Sonnier (pictured here in 2017), a producer on the film, told Deadline: Filming will continue and production is working to replace the crew members that left. WireImage

Dallas Sonnier, a producer for Bonfire Legend, told Deadline in a statement on Friday: "The entire industry is in freefall due to strikes, and now that their members are out of work, they're trying to sabotage the few people who are still producing. We don't negotiate with communists."

According to Deadline, filming is continuing, with production working to replace the crew members that left.

Sonnier previously told Deadline when the story first broke that he and his fellow producers were "too busy being bad asses, blowing s–t up, flying helicopters, and killing movie terrorists to concern ourselves with four assh—s with signs on the sidewalk and their illegitimate 'strike.' "

He also toldPeopleon Friday, "The actors' fall was shorter than the failed movie careers of the now-union reps."

Meanwhile, producers have not denied any of the allegations.
