Royalty from around the world gathered at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden this evening to celebrateKing Carl XVI Gustaf’s80th birthday. Among those in attendance included Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary, who wore a historic bracelet as a tiara for the occasion.
The Danish queen turned Queen Louise’s Diamond Floral Bracelet, which belongs to the Danish Royal Property Trust, into a tiara. She paired the tiara with a bold floral dress, and dangling diamond earrings.
Per theKongehuset, “The bracelet is segmented with a rosette-shaped centre section, surrounded by delicate flowers and leaves, all made of diamonds, set in gold and silver.” Oscar I and Queen Josefina of Sweden gave the bracelet as a wedding gift to their daughter-in-law, the future Queen Louise of Sweden, upon her marriage to Karl (XV) in June 1850. The bracelet was then passed on to their only surviving child, the future Queen Lovisa of Denmark, and it has belonged to the Danish royal family ever since.

Queen Margrethe frequently wore the bracelet as a choker, but Queen Mary appears to be the first Danish royal to wear it as a tiara.
Earlier in the day, Queen Mary and King Frederik attended a lunch in honor of the Swedish King at the City Hall. For that outing, Mary wore a Dior skirt suit set and floral diamond earrings.
The Danish royal couple is staying on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog during their time in Sweden. Also joining them for the festivities are Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte.
