After meeting at an audition in 1982, the actors wed in a private N.Y.C. ceremony on March 5, 1989. They later welcomed two children,son Owen and daughter Greta, born in 1991 and 1994, respectively.
Klinetold Business Insiderin October 2024 that he and his wife don't consider themselves to have a "Hollywood marriage" because they've lived on N.Y.C.'s Upper East Side, where Cates runs a store, for so long.
Their strength may have less to do with location than with their love for each other, with the Oscar winner telling the outlet that one of the main reasons their relationship is so strong is Cates' support for him.
"She's got her head on her shoulders, unlike me. I usually have my head on her shoulders, too. She's a great wife, a great mother, great person, and she keeps me honest," he said, before joking: "Except for in interviews."
