Here are six teams that Tommy DeVito could fit with after Giants waive QB

The New York Giants waived quarterback Tommy DeVito on Tuesday as they look to whittle their roster to 53 men ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

DeVito, 27, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and quicky established himself as a fan favorite. The New Jersey native – nicknamed "Tommy Cutlets" – led the Giants to a 3-1 record in his first four starts and captivated the NFL world with his signature celebration, which paid homage to his Italian heritage.

While DeVito inserted himself into the zeitgeist of the 2023 season, he didn't play nearly as much in 2024. He made two starts, both losses, before watching the Giants add Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart to the quarterback room during the 2025 NFL offseason.

DeVito enjoyed a quality preseason, but it still wasn't enough for him to make the team. Now, he will hit waivers, and could draw interest from several teams, as NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports DeVito was "the subject of some trade conversations in recent days."

Here's a look at where DeVito could end up.

New York Giants

Yes, it's still possible DeVito could return to the Giants. If he clears waivers, New York could add him to its practice squad. That would give the Giants three experienced signal-callers in their organization along with the upside of Dart, a first-round rookie.

Will DeVito clear waivers? That remains to be seen. But if he does, New York's "Tommy Cutlets" era may live on.

Carolina Panthers

Andy Dalton is dealing with an elbow injury. While it isn't considered severe, the Panthers may want to add some depth behind their veteran backup after releasing Jack Plummer and Bryce Perkins.

Given his starting experience, DeVito would be solid insurance behind Dalton. He could eventually emerge as the 37-year-old's successor as a long-term backup behind Bryce Young.

Detroit Lions

The Lions released 2023 third-round pick Hendon Hooker after he failed to beat Kyle Allen for the backup job behind Jared Goff. DeVito would provide solid competition for the journeyman Allen, who hasn't won a start since 2020.

NFL CUTS 2025: Live updates on moves ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline

New England Patriots

The Patriots have just two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster after releasing Ben Wooldridge; they are Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs.

The Patriots can get by with that duo, but Mike Vrabel has been on a quest to improve New England's organizational depth since taking the team's coaching job. DeVito would provide the team with a solid three-man quarterback room.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are another team with just two quarterbacks on their roster. Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins are entrenched atop the depth chart, but Atlanta may want to add a third man to the group, especially if it wants to dangle the 37-year-old Cousins as trade bait at any point.

Washington Commanders

Neither Josh Johnson nor Sam Hartman performed well during the preseason. They combined to complete 53 of 90 passes for 485 yards, one touchdown and a whopping seven interceptions.

DeVito would be an upgrade as a third-stringer behind Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota while Adam Peters may relish a chance to steal the 27-year-old from a divisional rival.
