Carlos Alcaraz debuted a new haircut before the US Open on Monday
The Spanish tennis star sported a buzzcut, which had fellow players, including Frances Tiafoe, perplexed
"I mean, it's definitely terrible," Tiafoe told reporters
Carlos Alcaraz is splitting hairs about his new buzzcut!
The world No. 2 tennis player debuted a polarizing look at the US Open in advance of his first-round matchup against Reilly Opelka on Monday, Aug. 25 — and he blamed one of his brothers for botching the assignment.
"My brother misunderstood with the machine he cut it," Alcaraz, 22, told reporters after his straight sets win against the 6-foot, 11-inch American. "And the only way to fix it is to shave it off."
"To be honest, it's not that good," he added, before quickly correcting himself. "Its not that bad, I guess."
Fellow tennis star Frances Tiafoe had a stronger opinion about the 'do.
"I mean, it's definitely terrible," Tiafoe, 27, told reporters on Monday. "He's my guy though. It's funny. I looked at him and I was like, I guess you're aerodynamic."
He added, "Yeah, I don't know who told him that it's good. I don't know who told him to do that, but it's terrible. From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it's horrendous."

It's not the first time that the Spaniard has mixed things up before a tournament.
In May, Alcaraz made headlines before a French Open match when he showed off a dramatic fade without his trademark beard.
"I think everyone saw my hair, my beard," he told reporters at a press conference.
He added, "I had to do something about it. Probably people aren't used to seeing me getting a haircut between the matches. I think that's why people were a bit surprised. But I think that's something normal."
The athlete flew in his barber to Paris then — but New York was "too far" for him to travel, Alcaraz said on Monday.
"I'm not really into the hair at all," he said. "I'm the guy who thinks like, 'Okay, hair grows,' and in a few days it's gonna be okay, I guess. It just happens, and that's it."
