The Sunday afternoon slate for Week 9 is headlined by two big AFC matchups with playoff implications. In the early afternoon window, it's two first-place teams facing off when the Indianapolis Colts (7-1) head to Pittsburgh (4-3) for a showdown with the Steelers.

Indianapolis has surprised the entire league, with RB Jonathan Taylor looking like an MVP candidate (named AFC Player of the Month) as he leads the NFL with 850 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, while quarterback Daniel Jones looks to have been resurrected by head coach Shane Steichen. Meanwhile, the Steelers have been up and down behind Aaron Rodgers and have lost two consecutive games coming into this matchup.

Minnesota Vikings starting offensive tackles Christian Darrisaw and Brian O'Neill will start in the team's Week 9 matchup with the Detroit Lions. Both were questionable with knee injuries, but are ready to go.

- Mon, November 3, 2025 at 4:15 AM GMT+11Kate Magdziuk41-year-old Marcedes Lewis active for Week 9

The Denver Broncos signed 41-year-old veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis to their practice squad earlier this week, and he's officially set to make his debut with the team after being elevated to the active roster for the game.

Per NBC's Michael Florio, Lewis will be the oldest player in Broncos history and the oldest tight end in NFL history to play a game.

After a 12-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected Lewis in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft, he spent five seasons with the Green Bay Packers and each of the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears. He had just one catch for two yards on two targets over 17 games active in 2024.

So yeah ... not particularly relevant for fantasy football — but it's a cool story!

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed Travis Hunter on injured reserve after a non-contact knee injury suffered in practice on Thursday.

Jacksonville is confident Hunter did not suffer long-term damage to the knee and will evaluate the best course of treatment over the next two weeks. Hunter will miss at least the next four games, at a minimum, while on IR.

- Mon, November 3, 2025 at 4:07 AM GMT+11Kate MagdziukJoe Flacco to play through shoulder injury in Week 9

The Cincinnati Bengals will have quarterback Joe Flacco available in Week 9 after missing two of three practices with a sprained shoulder in his throwing arm. He was initially listed as questionable heading into the weekend, but is now officially active for gameday.

Flacco and the Bengals have had back-to-back games with 33-plus points, with Flacco totaling 565 yards, 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in that span, adding in a rushing touchdown on a goal-line quarterback sneak.

It remains to be seen if the shoulder will impact his play at all in Week 9, but with star defensive end Trey Hendrickson out as a key part of the defense, the offense will likely need to produce if there is any hope of walking away with a win over the Bears. After starting the season 0-2, Chicago has gone 4-1 over its past five games under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.

Seattle Seahawks wideout Cooper Kupp is unlikely to play on Sunday Night Football in Week 9 against the Commanders due to heel and hamstring injuries. Despite coming off a bye last week, it doesn't look like Kupp will suit up on Sunday night.

- Mon, November 3, 2025 at 3:45 AM GMT+11Kate MagdziukBears rookie Kyle Monangai gets big-time opportunity in Week 9

The Chicago Bears will be without top running back D'Andre Swift in Week 9, which it seems will set up seventh-round rookie RB Kyle Monangai for a potential breakout game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Monangai is averaging 4.4 yards per carry in a limited role so far this season with the Bears, having taken on an increased role over the past two weeks with 20 total carries for 105 rushing yards and a score in that span with another 13 yards through the air.

Going up against a Bengals defense that has allowed a league-high 151.9 rushing yards per game and 10 rushing touchdowns on the season, he is Yahoo Fantasy's consensus RB17 in half-scoring league formats.

- Mon, November 3, 2025 at 3:40 AM GMT+11Kate MagdziukJ.J. McCarthy makes his return as Vikings starting QB

Second-year Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Week 2, but he's officially set to return against the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon in his third career start.

His first two games were a bit of a mixed bag, showcasing plenty of athleticism and some creativity as a playmaker despite some early hiccups that are usually expected for a quarterback with limited starting experience.

While he was rehabbing that ankle injury, veteran Carson Wentz started in his place, going 2-3 before eventually suffering what wound up being a season-ending shoulder injury. The Vikings currently sit last in the NFC North with a 3-4 record, while the Packers hold a lead at 5-1-1.

- Mon, November 3, 2025 at 3:35 AM GMT+11Kate MagdziukIsiah Pacheco out for Chiefs in Week 9

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without top running back Isiah Pacheco in Week 9 after suffering a knee injury.

CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson says fans can expect a mixed back at running back, as Kansas City leans on a mix of veteran Kareem Hunt, rookie Brashard Smith and former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

While Pacheco currently leads the team in rush attempts (78) and rushing yards (329), Hunt is not too far behind him with 62 rush attempts for 245 yards and four touchdowns, leading the team in red zone and goal-line carries this season, per PFF.
