Golden State Warriors rookie Chance McMillian went viral for being too shy to ask his new teammate Stephen Curry to take a photo on his first-ever media day

Even NBA players can get starstruck!

Golden State Warriors rookie Chance McMillian went viral for his wholesome interaction with Stephen Curry, who became the youngster's new teammate after the 24-year-old free agent guard was signed to the team on Monday, Sept. 29.

In an Instagram clip shared by the NBA, McMillian — who went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft — is caught on camera gaping at superstar Curry, who was posing for pictures for the team's media day.

"What he up to right now," Curry, 37, says in the video mid-shoot, pointing and asking the crew of photographers and videographers about the jersey-clad McMillian who was seen standing on the basketball court.

While trying to find the words to responds to his All-Star teammate, who's widely regarded as the greatest shooter in basketball history, the crew standing around the first-year player answered for him.

"He wants to take a picture. I will blast him," said one camera man to the group, who were all bursting out in laughter at the situation, Curry included. "He wants to take a picture with you."

McMillian, who now looked like a deer in headlights, still couldn't find the words.

"He ain't gonna ask?" Curry questioned the room. "No," replied the crew member, still laughing.

Finally, the former Texas Tech player replied.

"I was waiting until you were done!" he told an amused Curry, who stood smiling wide on the white backdrop with a basketball in hand.

The crew member emphasized, "He wants to take a picture with you. This guy right here..." To which the in-awe rookie stressed, "I was waiting! I was waiting!"

"Would you go take the picture!!" the crew member pushed one final time.

Without any additional hesitation, McMillian hustled over to the white backdrop to pose alongside Curry.

"You gotta come in here looking proper though," the Warriors star told him.

He agreed, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," and tucked his jersey into his uniform shorts before the two posed together for the photos. While he prepared himself, the crew continued to poke fun, including Curry.

"That's a delay of game," he joked and pointed to McMillian as he spruced himself up for the shot.

Eventually, the veteran NBA star and his first-year teammate stood beside each other for a few pictures. Curry held the basketball and smiled, while McMillian crossed his arms in a power stance.

Then, another Warriors rookie, Will Richard, was called out next. Curry also invited him over to take a photo.

Stephen Curry celebrates with Ayesha Curry after game six of the 2022 NBA Finals on June 16, 2022.

Curry knows all about making that transition from college to the NBA. He met his wife, Ayesha Curry, at Davidson College and recently recalled to PEOPLE about a conversation they had during his school years that shaped his career path.

"We had just started dating, or about a year and some change in, and I was deciding whether I was gonna go to the draft or not, and, you know, communication, trust, and the whole deal — being able to… I was going through it," he shared.

At the time, he felt torn, he said. In the middle of that uncertainty, though, he turned to Ayesha for advice.

"She actually told me to stay in school because of how important finishing my degree was and the whole deal," he said.

Ultimately, Curry opted to leave Davidson after his junior year and enter the 2009 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Golden State Warriors.

Since then, he's spent 16 seasons with the team and won championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. Now, he said he still looks back at that defining moment as he prepares for his 17th season in the NBA.
