Golden Bachelor star Mel Owens is keeping fans guessing ahead of the ABC series' highly anticipated finale — and if his latest interview is any indication, viewers should brace for a surprising finish.
In an interview with Us Weekly, the 66-year-old former NFL linebacker offered just enough detail to spark speculation while refusing to give away the outcome. Calling the ending "brilliant," Owens promised that fans "won't believe" how his season wraps up.
"You have the setting, and I know who it is," he said of his final choice. "It's really emotional. And you're a little nervous, but it's so brilliant. … It's so good, you won't believe it."

That finale, filmed in Antigua, will conclude a season that has already been filled with unexpected turns. Owens admitted that he even made a pros and cons list to help narrow down his final decision, writing down "the goods, the bads, the neutrals" about each of the remaining women.
"It really didn't sway me, but I could still look at it," he explained. "There's that magnetism that pulls you in that direction no matter what, and it's a little bit more toward one person than the other, so I went with my gut."
As of this week's episode, Owens' final three include:
Debbie Siebers, 65, a Denver-based fitness professional who has never been married.
Cindy Cullers, 60, a retired biomedical engineer from Austin, Texas.
Peg Munson, 62, a retired firefighter and bomb technician from Las Vegas.

Owens had nothing but praise for his finalists, calling Siebers "gentle, smart, [and] beautiful," Cullers "passionate, compassionate and brilliant," and Munson "high energy" but intriguing to "crack."
The retired linebacker also revealed that, unlike many Bachelors before him, he refused to rush into saying "I love you" or proposing just because the format expects it.
"No, I'm not gonna fall in love twice," he said with a laugh. "Conflict is good for the show but not good for the heart."
"I told the producers, 'I'm here with an open heart and open mind,'" he added. "But it's a two-way street. Just because I want to get engaged doesn't mean they want to get engaged."

When it comes to the fantasy suites, Owens described his approach in three simple words: "contemplative, conversation, information." He explained that the private time was about connection, not drama. "I went in there really wanting to know more, because the cameras are off … and now I can ask questions you might not want to say while you're miked and on camera."
As for red flags? Owens says he was more focused on the positives. "I'm looking for deal-makers," he told Us. "My best fit would be someone who is fun and high-energy — someone who is witty, a lifelong learner I can be curious with and learn from."
And while he wouldn't spoil the ending, Owens' confidence in his final decision hints at a love story worth watching.
"You won't believe how we get there," he teased. "Not mechanically, but how we get there emotionally. There's some movement and twists and turns."
The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
