George Clooney entered a different chapter of his life after becoming a dad.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new film Jay Kelly at AFI Fest on Thursday, Oct. 23, the star, 64, explained that things changed in his life after he and wife Amal Clooney welcomed their twins Alexander and Ella, 8.
"You can't just go swinging as you used to," Clooney says. "Amal and I both had to change our goals on where we would go. I used to enjoy going to places that were dangerous. I liked going into the Nuba Mountains and Darfur and Abyei, and there [were] war zones."
"And I found it exhilarating. And Amal was in a bunker in Beirut for two years doing the court cases. And we had to make decisions not to do that once we had kids," the actor continues. "You had to change sort of what the rules were."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Clooney shared that his son Alexander is already the spitting image of the actor when he was a child.
"My son looks exactly like I looked when I was his age, so it is sort of cut and paste in a way," Clooney told PEOPLE of Alexander. "I show him pictures of me when I was 8 and he thinks they're pictures of him."
"It's pretty fun," he said, adding that he feels "very lucky" to be able to spend time with his loved ones as he ages.
"I'm 64, so you look back at everything, because the looking forward is harder," he said. "But I'm in a pretty comfortable place in life. I like what I do for a living, I have great friends, I spend time with people that I love, and I've been able and lucky enough late in life to be able to spend time with my family."

Earlier this month, Clooney spoke with Esquire and shared a little bit about living in France with his family of four. The star told the outlet that he's "very lucky" to be able to raise his children on a farm away from the Hollywood spotlight.
"You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it," Clooney explained. "But now, for them, it's like—they're not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life."
"I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life," he added. "France—they kind of don't give a s--- about fame. I don't want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don't want them being compared to somebody else's famous kids."
