One of the most prolific writers in soap opera history has died.
Margaret DePriest died "peacefully" in her New York City home on Sept. 29, according to a local obituary. She was 94. Her daughter, Sara Kimbell, also confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.
DePriest was both an actress and writer who "helped define daytime's golden age," per the obituary.
She was born in Oklahoma and began her career as an actress, winning an Obie Award for her role in an off-Broadway production in New York City. She also starred in several daytime shows including The Edge of Night and The Doctors.

DePriest pivoted to writing in the late 1960s, as she created the series Where the Heart Is, which ran for 900 episodes from 1969 to 1973.
She joined General Hospital as a writer in 1979, and worked on over 150 episodes of the soap, before joining Days of Our Lives as the head writer, where she stayed for three years and penned close to 700 episodes.
She also had shorter stints as a writer on All My Children, One Life to Live and Another World. She was nominated for five Daytime Emmy awards for her writing over the course of her career.
Her daughter told THR that she was "exacting and unafraid to challenge executives" during her career, and she "favored strong female leads and layered storylines that tackled social change, class and identity."

Kimbell described her mom as a "lifelong, voracious reader; a lover of poetry (especially Seamus Heaney) and literature; and a lifelong seeker of knowledge."
"She loved architecture, art, history, flowers — she had a great green thumb — antiques and beauty in all forms," Kimbell said.
At 94, the writer "began every morning with The New York Times crossword — in pen," her daughter shared.
