Kristin Davis opened up about the uncertainty of Sex and the City's future after the first season.

On a recent episode of Hey Dude... The 90s Called!, the actress said she recently learned that there were talks of possible cancellation after season 1. Davis added that HBO even went so far as to send in a producer from The Sopranos to save the production.

"It was kind of, you know, from a production standpoint, like, an unwieldy show," she shared with cohosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher. "We were shooting really fast. We were shooting in so many locations in New York City, which is not easy, as we know. We didn't really have sets."

The set building was minimal, with Davis recalling how her character Charlotte's space consisted of two white walls and a bed. However, the show was still expensive to shoot because they were filming on the streets of New York City, which is itself a character on the series.

"That was the great part of it, but I guess they were stressing over there at HBO about it," Davis said.

Luckily, Sex and the City became a smash, running for six seasons on HBO. It was a cultural phenomenon that challenged old notions about women and sexuality. What's more, Sarah Jessica Parker recently remembered how New York City women even changed the way they walked and sat after the show premiered.

"We were talking about stuff that you don't normally talk about," Davis said. "It wasn't necessarily for men. It was more from the female perspective and the female gaze, but yet also there were a lot of salacious storylines obviously, especially first season."

Sex and the City spawned a spinoff in And Just Like That, which premiered in 2021 and is coming to an end on Aug. 14.

"Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years," Parker said in a post honoring the conclusion of her character's arc. "I think I have loved her most of all."
