Miami Marlins right fielder Dane Myers was heckled by a fan throughout his Aug. 17 game against the Boston Red Sox

The spectator was ultimately ejected from the game, while Myers pulled off a game-tying home run in the ninth inning

Myers said after the game that he yelled back at the fan to let them know "I'm a human, too, so I want some respect as well"

Miami Marlins right fielder Dane Myers could no longer ignore a fan heckling him throughout his Sunday, Aug. 17, game against the Boston Red Sox.

So he hollered back, hit a game-tying home run, and eventually watched as the fan was escorted out by ballpark security.

The incident took place throughout Sunday's game at Fenway Park but escalated during the final two innings as Myers, 29, got his redemption, according to The , The Boston Globe, and Boston.com.

"I basically said: 'Would you be saying this if you were on the field right in my face?'" Myers told reporters after the game, according to the AP. "That was basically the one guy that kind of got the whole section going."

Video shared by Boston.com showed Myers arguing with a group of fans as the entire right field section of the bleachers began booing and jeering the Marlins outfielder.

Two ballpark security officials stood between Myers and the bleachers, and one official appeared to point the baseball player's attention back to the field at one moment as he mocked a flex at the hecklers.

"Kudos for [security] kind of stepping in," Myers said, per the AP. "I wouldn't ever go into the stands or do anything like that. Just kind of letting them know I'm a person, too. I'm a human, too, so I want some respect as well."

Myers refused to tell reporters what the fan said to him, according to the AP. One reporter asked whether the fan said something inappropriate, to which Myers responded: "Maybe so."

"I don't really want to get into that," the Marlins outfielder added. "Probably drinking some beers out there, having a good time. It's a baseball game. I won't get into necessarily what I heard exactly. It's part of the game. I think I need to be a pro and probably handle it just a little bit better."

The fan was ultimately ejected from the game, according to the Globe, while Myers got the last laugh at the plate.

The Columbus, Tx., native hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the ninth inning with his team down 3-2, before Jakob Marsee then hit a two-run blast to give Miami a 5-3 lead, which held as the final score.

The exchange at Sunday's game comes after two other high-profile heckling incidents this MLB season. In April, a Cleveland Guardians fan was ejected after heckling Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, who had just recently opened up about a past suicide attempt.

And in June, a Chicago White Sox fan was ejected from a game and later banned for life after mocking Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte's late mother during a game.

"That can't happen," teammate Geraldo Perdomo said after that incident, which left Marte in tears on the field. "We can't continue to do that s--- here in MLB."
