Marc Maron won't be joining a Bill Maher fan club anytime soon.

Maron, host of the long-running "WTF" podcast, slammed the comedian during an Aug. 24 appearance on "Pod Save America."

"I always had a problem with his tone," Maron, 61, said of Maher, 69.

He continued, "I feel with Bill that there is this – and it happens with some of the other boomers – desperate chasing of relevance that changes someone's mind, in terms of how they approach what they do, and also makes the whole undertaking feel desperate."

Marc Maron, left, slammed Bill Maher during a recent appearance on "Pod Save America."

Maron specifically took issue with Maher's "ideas about wokeness" and said the comedian is "not for me," adding, "I can't see past the desperation, and what he's willing to do to stay in the conversation."

On his HBO show "Real Time" and podcast "Club Random," Maher has frequently criticized what he has described as "wokeness" on the left.

"I would categorize 'liberal' as different than 'woke,'" Maher told CNN in 2023. "Woke, which started out as a good thing: alert to injustice. Who could be against that? But it became sort of an eyeroll because they love diversity, except of ideas, and that's not really where we should be."

Maron previously called out Maher during a March episode of his "WTF" podcast. After saying that the United States is living under "fascism" under President Donald Trump, Maron blasted people "like Bill Maher" who "agree with some of the things that Trump is doing."

Marc Maron to end 'WTF' podcast after 16 years: 'We're burnt out'

Earlier this year, Maher faced criticism after he sat down for dinner with Trump at the White House. In a subsequent monologue on his HBO show, Maher told viewers he was surprised to find Trump was much more likable in person. "Everything I've ever not liked about him was, I swear to God, absent, at least on this night with this guy," Maher said.

"A crazy person doesn't live in the White House," the comedian also said. "A person who plays a crazy person on TV a lot lives there."

Without mentioning Maher's name, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" star Larry David skewered the monologue in a satirical New York Times essay, written from the perspective of a person who had dinner with Adolf Hitler in 1939 and found the Nazi leader to be surprisingly personable. Maher fired back on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" that David's essay was "kind of insulting to 6 million dead Jews."

Maron has hosted the "WTF" podcast since 2009 and announced in June that the show will end this fall. "We're tired," he said. "We're burnt out. And we are utterly satisfied with the work we've done."
