Andy Karl is headed down the aisle.
The Broadway star and his fiancée, Australian actress Elise McCann, announced their engagement on Thursday, Aug. 28, in a joint Instagram post.
Alongside pictures snapped as the couple held hands and embraced in coordinating blazers, T-shirts and jeans ensembles, Karl and McCain wrote a simple caption revealing the date of his proposal: "💍 July 28."
Karl, 51, and McCann, 41, met in while starring opposite one another in the Australian production of the musical adaptation of Groundhog Day, where he reprised his Tony-nominated role. The production opened in Melbourne in January 24, 2024.

Months later, Karl and his now ex-wife, fellow stage star Orfeh, announced they were separating after 23 years of marriage.
"Keeping a marriage strong can be challenging, especially when working on opposite sides of the world, but we remain committed to building a strong future, whether together or apart," they said in their statement. "We ask for respect and privacy at this time."
Not long after that, Karl and McCann went public with their pairing, walking the red carpets of several theater openings including Hamilton in Sydney (in August 2024) and The Hills of California on Broadway (in September 2024).
"Couldn't love him more 🤍🫶🏻✨," McCann wrote of Karl, on Instagram in April.

Karl returned to the New York stage in October 2024, replacing Steven Pasquale in Teeth Off-Broadway. The Tony Award nominee kicked 2025 off with a turn in Moulin Rouge! The Musical as Le Duke de Monroth.
McCann is currently starring in the Australian production of Beetlejuice, playing Barbara Maitland — the character originated by Kerry Butler in the 2019 Broadway production (and Geena Davis in the 1988 movie). Karl will be leading a production of the same musical in January 2026, in Singapore.
In addition to Beetlejuice and Groundhog Day, McCann's previous credits include Australian productions of Mamma Mia!, Merrily We Roll Along and Matilda the Musical.
Meanwhile, Orfeh — who received a Tony nomination for her role in Legally Blonde: The Musical — is currently on the boards in London, racking up rave reviews in the stage musical adaptation of Burlesque. She is starring in the role of Tess, made famous by Cher in the fan-favorite 2010 film.
