Steve Overend initially wondered if the stiffness in his jaw was a dental problem. At a family barbecue he noticed he couldn't open his mouth wide enough to eat a bread roll. 'It wasn't painful, but it was very odd – it felt like my jaw had stopped working,' recalls Steve, 66, a retired quality engineer. 'I physically couldn't put normal-size portions of food into my mouth.' It didn't improve over time.
