The day of the all-out nuclear war dawns like any other. There is no warning and people are going about their normal lives in capitals across the world. In New York, the first city to be hit, it's around 8am. Cars are being backed out of garages in the suburbs, while kids wearing colourful backpacks wait for school buses and harassed mums stuff sandwiches into packed lunches.
