"It began with an e-mail, and it stated $499 can be withdrawn from my account," stated consumer Corinthia advised CBS affiliate KHOU in 2020.

Concerned concerning the transaction, she referred to as the telephone quantity listed at the bottom of the e-mail.

The supposedly friendly consultant informed her "to download this app, so he might look into my account and see what happened."

Nevertheless, she quickly discovered the representative was not a real Cash App employee.

As soon as she opened the app, she claimed that the man transferred $1,600 to someone in Canada.

"$four is what's left in my Cash App account now," she advised the outlet.

Scams by way of cash transfer apps have continued to climb.

A Consumer Reports survey from 2022, found that 9% who use cost apps reminiscent of Cash App, PayPal, and Venmo at the least once every week have reported some sort of fraud while utilizing the app.

The U.S. Sun has reported on multiple customers who've had issues with the app including one woman who lost her $1,400 tax refund.

In 2022, Tiesha Hines claimed that the cash was deposited into her Cash App account, but was left with 62 cents after it was hacked.

"It's depressing too, you already know because this was a variety of my cash that I earned," she stated.

Hines claimed to have filed a police report and disputed the transaction with Cash App, but allegedly the app declined her dispute and didn't refund her cash.

Money App stated that it sends textual content alerts when unusual exercise is detected and that it couldn't "refund or reverse a cost after it's been accomplished."

Hines stated she did not know her account had been accessed.

The consumer stated she felt used and was dissatisfied with Cash App.

"It was undoubtedly a lesson discovered and I undoubtedly remorse trusting Cash App with my cash," Hines stated.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Cash App for comment.
