Fans went wild in February over rumours that the Nickelodeon show could be the next collab destined for Fortnite.

The anticipation increased further after players spotted character Aang frozen in the iceberg within the game.

A teaser trailer released by Epic Games last night confirmed Avatar: The Last Airbender's imminent arrival.

"Yip yip! Get ready, Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming to Fortnite," the caption reads.

Fortnite's servers are due to go down today as part of scheduled maintenance to introduce v29.20, with the new skins in tow.

It's due to take place from 9am until 1pm BST.

But fans are also wondering where Aang fits into all of this – read on to find out more.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Fortnite skins and features

There will be three Avatar: The Last Airbender skins added to Fortnite as part of the collab.

These are:

  • Katara
  • Toph
  • Zuko

Once the update is complete, they will available to buy as Outfits in the Fortnite item shop.

Of course, there is expected to be new harvesting tools, emotes and back bling as well.

You may be wondering where much-loved Aang is in all this.

Fortnite crossover event

An in-game crossover event will also called Avatar: Elements.

It's not clear what the event will entail as yet but based on previous crossovers it's likely to run for about two to three weeks with a series of objectives linked to the characters and elements of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

In a tweet, Epic Games said: "And start warming up your bending technique, Avatar: Elements kicks off April 12 at 9 AM ET."

MICROSOFT has a bad reputation for acquiring companies and then their output rapidly declining.

Rare was the king of the N64 era before Microsoft acquired it and forced a pivot to the widely unpopular Kinect.

Tjodolf Sommestad is the president at Candy Crush developer King[/caption]

Then there was the purchase of Bethesda turning Redfall and Starfield into Xbox exclusives, and we sadly saw how that turned out.

However, it hasn't been all doom and gloom, while the leads at Mojang left following its acquisition, Minecraft has gone from strength to strength under new leadership.

Microsoft purchased the world's biggest publisher, Activision Blizzard King, last year for a mind-boggling $70billion.

However, King President Tjodolf Sommestad doesn't think it will change how his company makes games.

He told us: "We are now part of an even bigger group of game studios or games companies.

"They have a passion for shipping games to players and making the world more playful.

"All of them really have this passion to make games better and learn from others.

"We're not working tightly with them at all, but have a feeling that we're part of that environment that creates.

"We get the right types of answers, and when we ask for help.

"They understand what we would like to have help with because they've seen similar things before and know how the creative process works."

Before the latest acquisition, King was acquired by Activision Blizzard back in 2015, but Sommestad hasn't seen as big of a shift this time.

He reflects: "It's been less of a change. We're still under Activision Blizzard, but we are running a relatively independent business as King."

While King's upper management weren't in talks with Microsoft concerning the acquisition, it was a large piece of the puzzle.

Microsoft has a sizable chunk of both the console and PC gaming markets, but lags far behind when it comes to mobile games.

Sommestad believes he knows why Microsoft was so adamant in acquiring one of the biggest mobile publishers in the world.

He says: "We're absolutely the biggest [mobile developer in the Microsoft Gaming group] for sure. But I'm not personally driven by shining within the group.

"Mobile has been growing very healthily for a decade. A lot of companies have moved in, lots of content has been created, and it is maturing a bit.

"The growth rates are coming down. But then in other industries, it's similar, even declining.

"[The layoffs] are sad to see but there's been periods where we and many other companies have been hiring very actively.

"It's potentially a bit of a normalization for us but I can't speak for other companies. I think mobile is in a great place. The mobile industry is in a healthy place.

"I'm quite optimistic for the future, but companies need to readjust and make sure that they have the right workforce to deliver for tomorrow."

Sommestad is referring to the mass layoffs that have occurred within the industry, saying that studios have to hold on to its talent if it wants to grow.

This has been one of Microsoft's biggest missteps in the past, pivoting a studio to work on a new IP, and laying off a large number of employees once the companies merge.

The latter has already occurred, with Xbox laying off 1.9k employees following the acquisition, including an unknown number of King employees.

Does Sommestad also believe that King could be asked to pivot to a different area of gaming?

He says: "Not yet at least, but we're really early. It's only been a few months, and this first period is about making sure that we can keep delivering to the players through the games that we have.

"We're starting to establish some relationships with our peer studios, but who knows what will happen.

"I personally don't think that the type of games that we have at King are good for consoles. So that's not something we're actively talking about.

"I would never say I'm 100% certain because I'm open to learning, open to new ideas and the industry evolves. But the way it is right now, it's not a priority for us."

SUDDENLY over the last year, the meaning of AI shifted, and conversations over its use have run rampant.

AI used to mean how an NPC in a game moves or talks, but when you hear AI now, you picture melting faces, too many fingers, and nonsense word salad.

Luka Crnkovic-Friis thinks that the human touch is always needed when working with AI to ensure high quality games[/caption]

In many ways, AI has become a dirty word, but we should remember what AI does best, and has done for a long time.

We visited Candy Crush developer King in Stockholm, Sweden to talk about the company's future.

Candy Crush is known for its incredibly loyal user base, and the team showed us the latest innovations awaiting beyond the horizon that keep the players coming back day after day.

These include the implementation of AI in their game routines, with a noticeable impact on titles such as Candy Crush Soda Saga and Farm Heroes Saga.

We spoke with King's Head of AI, Luka Crnkovic-Friis, about how AI has been implemented in Candy Crush games without subjecting us to something akin to Willy's Chocolate Experience.

Crnkovic-Friis says: "We have over 100 different use cases at King. Broadly, it falls into three large areas.

"There's content automation, which is level design. The other is personalization, which is everything to do with recommendations.

"This is things like recommending a booster, recommending moves, recommending what to show after you have ended the game, and is based on the gameplay of the player.

"The third one is in performance marketing, which is the balance of how much do you pay when buying ads versus the estimated lifetime value of the player."

If we break this down, the level design is the randomisation of the candy, trying to ensure that the candy to match feels random while still making matching and combos possible.

The second is about tailoring the experience to the user, encouraging people to spend their money while balancing what feels aggressive.

Finally, the AI is monitoring which adverts drive more users to its games.

Essentially, the AI is in charge of the busy work; the spreadsheets and algorithms that would be tedious for a person to do by hand.

Most importantly, there are humans overseeing the AI, making tweaks, and balancing the job it's doing.

Crnkovic-Friis says: "I think the biggest challenge is that this is a massive game with lots of users.

"We have to make sure that when we are introducing a radical change that it doesn't negatively affect the users.

"So there's a lot of testing involved, and there's some time between creating a feature and when it gets deployed.

"Candy Crush is a complex game [and you don't want to] break anything when you replace an older component with a newer one."

One of the biggest concerns about AI in games is that it could lead to job losses across the industry, and lower-quality content for users.

Crnkovic-Friis says this isn't the aim at King: "What we are deploying are tools that empower Kingsters, making their jobs more efficient, more fun.

"That's our view for the foreseeable future. If we look at generated content, it's just not feasible for the level of quality that we need, the level of creativity that is required for it.

"And what we have now with level design, it's the combination of a human designer that does the overall creative thinking, the storyline, the theme.

"Then the AI helps to optimize the right difficulty, and that it flows well."

Last year, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard King, the largest purchase tech has ever seen, costing an unfathomable $70billion.

This has opened King up to more AI tools, and while Crnkovic-Friis says the company has no plans to use generative AI when it comes to the creative aspects, his enthusiasm for OpenAI, which encompasses ChatGPT and video AI Sora, tells a different story.

He says: "Microsoft opened up a lot for us and also indirectly to our partnership with OpenAI, we got access to things that we would not have if we were not part of it.

"And it's amazing to be able to have this close relationship with world leading companies."

In return King can offer Xbox a way into the lucrative mobile industry, an area Xbox is severely behind in.

Crnkovic-Friss says: "Xbox has no real mobile presence. So this is a really new thing for them.

"A new way of looking at game development. the traditional triple-A games, they're like blockbuster movies and were like a TV show.

"But there will be a Candy Crush in 10 years and it won't be Candy Crush 2. It will still be Candy Crush."

GAMERS across most platforms can grab an amazing game at a deep discount, but not all deals are created equal.

We've looked through all storefronts on all platforms, and found that some players can get a better deal, or even play the game for free.

It features challenging combat where button mashing won't get you far[/caption]

Dead Cells is a great roguelike metroidvania that masterfully combines the staple features of the two genres.

You play as an amnesiac Prisoner who journeys across ever changing levels of a diseased island, with the ultimate goal to kill its King.

It's a single-player side-scrolling platformer with quite challenging combat, requiring you to time your attacks and dodges carefully.

It's a rogulike, so there is permadeath, but each playthrough unlocks permanent upgrades that will help you in your next attempt.

The randomised level layouts keep the game fresh and interesting.

Rated between 84 and 91 on review aggregator Metacritic, Dead Cells is among the best titles in its genre and it's now on sale on multiple platforms.

PlayStation players can grab it for £9.99 / $12.49, instead of £19.99 / $24.99, saving 50% off its regular price.

Nintendo Switch owners are getting the same deal as PS players, and it ends on April 21.

On Steam, it's a 40% discount, at £13.19 / $14.99, if you grab it before 6pm UK Time / 1pm EDT on April 13, 2024.

These are all great deals on an excellent game, but some players can even play it completely free.

Xbox Game Pass members can either play for free or buy to own with a special £4 / $5 subsriber discount.

PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can also play the game at no additional cost for as long as they are subscribed.

Dead Cells is also free on Netflix, so if you have a subscription you can enjoy the mobile version of the game, complete with all DLC.

One of the most popular games is no exception, but there's a way to play it completely free right now.

Unlike RPGs Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind, which are set in the same world of Tamriel, ESO is a multiplayer experience[/caption]

The Elder Scrolls Online is hosting a Free Play Event across all platforms on which the game is available.

No matter if you're on PC via Steam or Epic Games, Mac, Xbox or PlayStation consoles, or Nintendo Switch, you can play absolutely free this week.

The free event started on April 2 and will continue until April 9, 2024, so fans of The Elder Scrolls series who are new to the online MMORPG still have time to jump in.

The Elder Scrolls Online is part of the same series and set in the same world as popular RPGs Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind.

Instead of a single-player story, though, ESO offers players the true MMO experience in Tamriel, and has been hugely popular since its April 4, 2014 launch.

Over the last decade, The Elder Scrolls Online has received numerous content updates and expansions, and has amassed a loyal fanbase.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, publisher Bethesda has prepared new content, events, and updates, including a new chapter, Gold Road, due to launch in June.

In order to play The Elder Scrolls Online for free during this week's event, you just have to download and install the game on your preferred platform.

Once the free period is over, players can buy the ESO base game at 75% off, for just £3.99 / $4.99 as part of a limited-time offer.

The latest update for the game, The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom is also on sale right now, at 67% off, for £8.41 / $9.89.

SUIKODEN is one of the best JRPG series, but it had its heyday back when the PS One was king.

Eiyuden Chronicle is the spiritual successor to the Suikoden series and it almost lives up to its incredible legacy.

Eiyuden Chronicle is perfect for old-school gamers[/caption]

More than anything, Eiyuden Chronicle is a tribute to the fans, and a new entry to the series in everything but name.

It offers a fresh take on the Suikoden games, while offering everything that gave the classics such a huge fanbase.

You're a young commoner that is given the task of building a resistance farce to fight against an imperial army with crooked nobles.

As the name Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes suggests, you can recruit up to 100 people to take part in turn-based battles.

These come in three types: your traditional combat, duels, and wars. It also has other traditional Suikoden features like base-building, minigames and a virtual economy.

You might have 100 people in your army, but you can only take up to six characters in traditional battles, though large allies will take up more than one slot.

This means you can make good synergies within your team by adding heroes who buff, heal and deal physical or magical damage.

Every character has their use, and you'll find that missing a piece of the puzzle will significantly reduce your chances of success.

Then you need to consider who sits in the front or back row based on how much damage they take and deal, and it adds a further tactical layer.

Some won't like the way Eiyuden Chronicle approaches random encounters, where even basic fights can be a grind.

However, you can auto-battle these and save your strength for the gruelling boss fights.

The focus – as with all Suikoden games – is on building your base and your army, and this is where it shines.

You collect resources as you travel, and different partners will use specific skills to build up your base.

Wars play out like most strategy games where you build small units to take on the opposing army.

Then it switches things up again by introducing one-on-one duels for specific conflicts and rivalries.

The strength of having this huge amount of characters is that there are dozens of compelling ones, so everyone can find a favourite.

The minigames aren't as compelling as you'll remember from games like Suikoden 2, and the war battles are relatively simple when you have the strength in numbers.

Fans of Suikoden will certainly enjoy Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes as a worthy successor, but it may be a little inaccessible to modern players.

Street Fighter 6, and the Resident Evil 4 remake stunned fans, breathing new life into the series.

Dark Void, Dark Void Zero, and Flock will all be leaving Steam[/caption]

The publisher has started off 2024 strong as well as Dragon's Dogma 2 has seen huge success.

However, the company has just announced that three games will be delisted from Steam, meaning they will no longer be playable on the platform.

From Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Dark Void, Dark Void Zero, and Flock will all be delisted from Steam.

If you want to play these games you have just two weeks to purchase them before they are gone for good.

When you look on the pages for these games, you will see the same messages.

It reads: "Capcom will be discontinuing digital sales of Dark Void / Dark Void Zero / Flock on Steam Store on May 8 5:30PM PDT.

"Customers who have purchased the title prior to its delisting date may still be able to enjoy the game into the future depending on their PC operating system's ability to continue running the game."

These three games are still available on other platforms, and it's not clear at the time if the games will be delisted from these platforms as well.

As older games they are very cheap to pick up, so give them a try if they take your fancy.

VIDEO game adaptations have been shaking off their terrible reputation as more excellent TV shows and movies are released.

First The Last of Us took the world by storm with its TV adaptation and now people are more hyped than ever about the new Fallout show on Prime Video.

Fallout is proving that video game adaptations can be excellent[/caption]

While the storyline of The Last of Us TV show largely followed that of the games, Fallout has chosen a different path.

Those who have already watched to the end have realised that it answers the question that all Fallout fans want to know.

Who started the nuclear apocalypse that the series is based on?

Note that the rest of the article contains spoilers for Fallout Season 1.

If you are deep into the Fallout lore you will know that the nuclear apocalypse that has befallen the Fallout universe is due to a war between the US and China, with both blaming the other for making the first move.

Series creator Tim Cain has gone on record to say that China started the war, however, he hasn't been part of the series since Fallout 2.

As an explanation was never given in-game, the story has deviated from his vision in the games that followed.

The finale of the first season of Fallout offers a third answer to the question of who started the fire.

Listening to a meeting between executives from Vault-Tec and various other companies, Cooper Howard makes a shocking discovery.

When one investor asks the vault makers "How can you guarantee results?" on their investment, Barb Howard makes a grim confession.

Barb reveals: "By dropping the bomb ourselves. A nuclear event would be a tragedy, but also an opportunity.

"Perhaps the greatest opportunity in history, because when we are the only ones left."

It isn't revealed if Vault-Tec actually ever goes through with this plan, but judging by how Barb talks, it was certainly the intention.

While the sequel was announced back in 2022, we have been waiting eagerly since then for a release date.

Everyone was named except for the narrator of the original[/caption]

The team recently announced an open technical test for Hades 2 which anyone can sign up to.

Those chosen only started playing yesterday, but already the reception has been hugely positive.

However, it's not just the how much they like the game that people are excited for, but also some big reveals about the first game.

One of the questions people were left wondering after the end of Hades was who the omnipresent narrator throughout the story was?

Those taking part in the technical test have finally been able to answer that question thanks to a surprising Easter egg.

Zagreus is the main protagonist of the original Hades, but now we have Melinoe in the main role.

Early on in the playtest Melinoe says: "Shush Homer. How shall I ever catch her if you're going to describe my every move?"

The Homer she is of course referring to is the Greek poet best known for writing the Odyssey and the Iliad.

It's a small Easter egg but it makes sense given how Homer often wrote about the Greek Gods.

We still haven't seen a portrait for Homer, but the technical test only covers a very small area of the game so there could be one lurking later on.

If you want to read more about the game, check out how you can enter the Hades 2 playtest.

What is FaZe Clan?

FaZe Clan is one of the largest eSports organizations in the world.

FaZe clan was founded in 2010 as a Call of Duty team by Eric "CLipZ" Rivera, Jeff "House Cat" Emann, and Ben "Resistance" Christensen, who reportedly met each other while playing COD Modern Warfare 2.

In 2012, the organization began growing and reached 1 million subscribers on YouTube after posting multiple videos of them playing different games.

By 2020, they had become the fourth-most-valuable eSports company in the world at $305 million with revenues reaching $50 million the following year, according to Forbes.

"We started out as internet kids armed with cameras and a diehard love for video games. We've turned our passions and struggles into a global creative engine that has no boundaries and continues to define gaming culture," FaZe states on their website.

"Most importantly, we're a family," they continue.

In 2021, FaZe announced a SPAC merger that would see the group publicly traded on the Nasdaq and valued at over $1 billion.

As of January 2022, they have a fanbase of 341 million followers.

Other top esports teams include TSM, Cloud9, Team Liquid, 100 Thieves, and Gen.G.

What members make up the FaZe Clan roster?

The FaZe Clan roster included 79 members of both gamers and content creators.

However, in April 2024, FaZe Clan shared a cryptic post about rebooting its roster.

In the video, a page of code could be seen with the text "An error has occurred" and "Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart your company."

FaZe Banks, who is a founder of FaZe, replied to the eerie video with the new roster.

"Adapt, Apex, Banks, Jev, Kaysan, Nick Mercs, Replays, Ronaldo, Rug, Scope, Swagg, Temperrr, Your Rage, Zooma. Everyone else is out," he wrote.

"That is the roster."

Several members have taken to social media to announce that they were dropped by the gaming organization.

Some of their most popular members have included:

  • FaZe Rain, whose real name is Nordan Shat
  • FaZe Apex, whose real name is Yousef Abdelfattah
  • FaZe Banks, whose real name is Richard Bengtson
  • FaZe Pamaj, whose real name is Austin Pamajewon
  • FaZe Jev, whose real name is Jason Vonderhaar
  • FaZe Rug, whose real name is Brian Awadis
  • FaZe Cizzorz, whose real name is Jack Cizek
  • FaZe Sway, whose real name is Josue Burgos

FaZe Clan also has a number of celebrity members including LeBron James' son, Bronny, and rappers Offset and Lil Yachty.

FORTNITE has made a controversial change that has many players angry.

The change has hidden certain emotes that players have spent real money on to buy.

Billie Eilish will headline Festival Fortnite this season[/caption]

Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain are all emotes that players could purchase from the Item Shop and the new change makes them feel useless.

Fortnite has labelled these emotes 'confrontational', and the latest update turns them off by default.

If you go into your settings, you will see that the emotes are only available "From Friends In Party", meaning you'll only see them if you're friends with the player who uses them.

Otherwise, the character performing the emote will just be standing still in order to hide the emote from you.

This is funny in its own way, as you know they are doing one of the four emotes, but you're not sure which.

This change is meant to reduce toxic behaviour in the playerbase, as people can use these emotes to taunt others.

However, some people still see the fun in it, so you might want to turn the emotes back on for your play.

If you want to turn the emotes back on, you first need to enter the settings and go to 'Account and Privacy'.

From here, you will see an option titled 'See Confrontational Emotes' and you can choose the level of visibility you want.

You can turn them off completely, or choose 'From Anyone' to ensure that you always see them.

Don't worry if you change your mind in the future, as you can change this setting at any time.

STEAM and PlayStation players are getting a nice discount on a very recent soulslike that's seeing its price reduced to an all-time low.

The game features challenging combat with formidable bosses[/caption]

Lies of P is a soulslike based on Carlo Colodi's Pinocchio, set in the gorgeous Belle Époque-inspired fictional city of Krat.

As you explore the world as Geppetto's puppet, you face various biomechanical enemies and massive robotic bosses.

It's a soulslike game, so expect challenging combat that requires perfect timing of your attacks, dodges and parries.

Lies of P also features a "choices matter" Lying System, where player decisions affect the story and eventually lead to several different endings.

Sitting at an 83/100 score on review aggregator Metacritic, Lies of P has been praised as one of the best games inspired by the Soulsborne series that isn't developed by FromSoftware.

Usually priced at £49.99 / $59.99, you can now buy Lies of P for £34.99 / $41.99 on Steam, saving 40%.

Lies of P is a relatively new game which launched last September, so this is the lowest price the game has been offered for on Steam.

Players have until 6pm UK Time / 1pm ET on April 16, 2024, to snatch the game at the current discount before it reverts to its usual price.

PlayStation owners can also grab a deal, but right now, it's only valid for the Deluxe Edition of the game, which features the base game and a few cosmetic items.

Lies of P Deluxe Edition is selling for £44.99 / $52.49, which is 25% off this version's regular price of £59.99 / $69.99.

This deal from the PlayStation Store will last until April 25, 2024.

Of course, there's no lower price than zero, and if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can still play the game for free on Xbox consoles or PC.

Excellent HD-2D JRPGs Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 are also having their prices slashed[/caption]

Running from April 28, the Square Enix Golden Week sale includes dozens of 9/10 games from the publisher's extensive library.

We've scoured the sale on Steam to handpick the best deals, and most of them are also available via the Nintendo Switch eShop, PlayStation Store and Xbox consoles.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy 7- Reunion is an excellent remaster of 2007's PSP game that presents the events that happened in the lead-up to Final Fantasy 7.

Now that two games of the FF7 remake trilogy are out, any fan or newcomer to the games should experience Crisis Core's story.

You can grab the Crisis Core remaster for £19.99 / $24.99, saving 50% off its regular price via Steam and all console storefronts.

Rated 83 on review aggregator Metacritic, Triangle Strategy is a great tactical JRPG praised for its combat, story, and music.

Even though the game looks a lot like Octopath Traveler, it plays similarly to a Fire Emblem or X-COM title, with a grid-based combat field and focus on tactical movement.

Triangle Strategy has versions for PC and Nintendo Switch, but only PC gamers on Steam are getting a 50% discount and can grab the game for £24.99 / $29.99.

NieR: Automata is on sale across all platforms, with its Game of the YoRHa Edition at 60% off on Steam and the PlayStation Store, and the Nintendo Switch port at 40% on the eShop.

Telling the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 as they battle alien machines in a dystopian world, it features stylish hack-and-slash combat with lots of combo attacks.

With an 89 rating on Metacritic for its Nintendo Switch version, it's been praised for its story and gameplay as one of the best games ever made.

On Steam and PlayStation Store, it's £11.99 / $15.99, while Switch owners can grab it for $23.99 / £20.99.

Both Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 are on sale, at 50% and 40% off respectively, on all platforms where each game is available.

The two titles offer a modern take on classic turn-based JRPGs like the old Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger and especially Live A Live.

Each game follows eight heroes with different abilities and their seemingly separate stories that eventually become intermingled.

Octopath Traveler is £24.99 / $29.99 on Steam, Xbox and the Nintendo eShop.

Unfortunately, the first Octopath Traveler game is not available on PlayStation consoles, so PS4 and PS5 will be missing out on half of this deal.

Right now, Octopath Traveler 2 costs £29.99 / $35.99 across all platforms.

Square Enix Golden Sale deals will be available until May 8, 2024, so there's more than a week to pick them up.

If you're looking for more video game bargains, check out this amazing 95-rated game slashed to its lowest-ever price on Steam.

That's far cheaper than the $279 asking price for the full Nintendo Switch (that plugs into a TV).

But Walmart is selling the Nintendo Switch Lite Timmy & Tommy's Aloha Edition for $199.

And the deal also includes a download of the smash-hit game Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The console features unique leaf patterns inspired by Animal Crossing.

And it comes with a redeemable download for the game, which Nintendo itself sells for $59.99 alone.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a fully handheld version of the Nintendo Switch.

It won't plug into your TV, but it plays the same games as the regular Switch.

SWITCH IT UP?

The handheld console has earned rave reviews at Walmart.

It boasts an overall score of 4.6/5, based on 728 ratings.

An impressive 639 of those were five-star reviews, with a further 26 awarding four stars.

And just 49 buyers handed out one-star ratings.

One shopper wrote: "Totally worth it! Great price when you factor in it comes with a free $60 game.

Another buyer said: "Better than expected. A very portable device for easy pick up and play on the go.

"Great for lunch breaks, commutes, and in bed. Does not connect to the TV, but not a big deal due to the price."

One wrote: "Great deal. Switch came really fast and in great condition. Setting it up was a breeze and the inclusion of the entire Animal Crossing game was a great deal, especially because it's a great game on its own.

"Definitely a no brainer if you're interested in the game and want a super portable Switch console."

And another added: "Better value than the regular one.

WE'VE all been affected by rising prices both in and out of gaming, so people are looking for ways to save money where they can.

The latest game subscription price change is a significant increase over the old price, almost doubling the charge for some subscribers.

Gaming subscription prices rise but players have found a cheeky way around it

EA Sports
EA is best known for its huge library of sports games[/caption]

EA Play is a subscription service for titles published by EA Games, best known for its huge library of sports games.

The list of games includes a huge number of popular sports series, such as EA Sports FC, F1, and Madden.

However, EA Games has many games from different genres on the list, including NFS Unbound, Lost in Random, and the Mass Effect Legendary Collection.

Gaming subscriptions used to be mostly for consoles, with people signing up for Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus, or Nintendo Switch Online depending on which console they own.

Now a number of publishers like EA Games and Ubisoft also have their own subscription services, though players seem more hesitant to sign up to these.

This isn't helped by EA Games' recent price hike making the service far less affordable.

Here are the price increases depending on the length of your subscription.

  • EA Play 1 Month was £3.99 / $4.99, now £5.99 / $5.99
  • EA Play 12 Months was £19.99 / $29.99, now £35.99 / $39.99

However, players have found a way to get around this huge price increase.

While EA Play is rising in price, the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes EA Play, remains the same.

This includes both Game Pass for Console and PC, so you can use it either way you play.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate increased in price in June 2023, but it wasn't as drastic as the EA Play price increase.

How a video game can help you overcome your grief | 993F296 | 2024-04-30 15:08:02

YOU might know Abubakar Salim for that raunchy silver suit in Raised By Wolves, or his emotional reveal at The Game Awards 2023.

Salim may be better known for his acting roles, but he has recently set up a game studio hoping to honour his father in a story about grief.

Kenzera shines by mixing the gameplay into the story's themes[/caption]

Going into Tales of Kenzera: Zau, you might be concerned that a story about the death of a parent would be a downer to put things lightly.

Reminding players of the inevitability of losing a loved one can be hard, and it's not as if Zau is devoid of unwanted emotions.

However, it doesn't make you fell down, and instead helps you become more comfortable with the concept of death.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is about those who are left behind when a loved one dies, and it addresses its themes through both metaphor and straightforward storytelling.

Our protagonist Zau is suffering after the loss of his father and makes a deal with death to bring him back if he reclaims three other souls along the way.

As a shaman, Zau's job is to heal, and when the world around him is crumbling, he's the only person left to heal.

He's not only dealing with the loss of his father but the loss of the world around him, and it's a lot of pressure.

Like many people suffering from grief, Zau throws himself into the task in the hopes that he can fix things.

He may live in a magical world full of spirits, but Zau tells a very personal and human story.

We see Zau help the others around him with their grief, while avoiding his own. He tries desperately to avoid what is inevitable.

With a heavy story, it would be easy to forgive lacklustre gameplay, but Zau adds a handful of great mechanics and builds on them well.

Most metroidvanias lock exploration skills in hidden corners around the map, but Zau gives you everything from the start and lets you go wild.

Your growth doesn't come from unlocking new abilities but from becoming more skilled at the ones you have.

There are upgrades, but these only add layers to your already robust options.

Upgrading your skills is done through improving yourself, a mechanic that weaves excellently into the story.

Combat does get repetitive in the latter half. While there are plenty of enemy types, once you settle into the gameplay not much challenges you.

Even in these moments it's hard to deny the beauty of Kenzera, and we never grew tired of the world or the story.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau breaks many of the conventions of your typical metroidvania by focusing on the story more than the exploration.

But it's a short experience that will hit you in the heart with a tale of love, loss, grief and acceptance.
