Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo were two of the most iconic rock stars of the '80s and even though they're still writing music, they've also decided to dip their toes into children's books.

The "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" singer and Giraldo first announced the book, My Grandma and Grandpa Rock, in December 2024 and it's described as "a book for the coolest grandpas and grandmas everywhere." While fans can pre-order the book now, it won't be officially released until September.

The illustrations, done by artist Tiffany Everett, include colorful depictions of Benatar and Giraldo with their grandchildren.

"Everything they said about having grandchildren is true. When we met in 1979, having children was one of our dreams. We were blessed with two beautiful daughters and now have three darling grandchildren - our dream on steroids!" the couple said in a statement released back in December 2024. "Our Grandbabies know that we are musicians and songwriters. They've seen our live concerts and watch our videos. To them, we're simply Grandma and Papa. Adorably, they think everyone's grandma and grandpa sing and play guitar. So, we thought it would be fun to write a book that showed them all the different kinds of grandparents and how special they are to their grandchildren."

In May, Benatar and Giraldo spoke about the idea behind the book and Giraldo said it "all came down to diversity."

"We did the book to explain how important diversity is and that everybody matters the same," he said in an interview with WOUB. "Everybody should be diverse in how they feel, love, where they come from, genre, creed, and everything. Everybody should be able to express who they are at all times without any conflict."

He added, "My Grandma and Grandpa Rock tries to include everybody in there—all the different names your grandmas and grandpas are called. All the kids and grandbabies call me Papa. Patricia and I are (around) 70, so we're on the older spectrum, but lots of grandparents are in their fifties. What's really special is that when people get to the end of the book, they always cry. It says the most important job is loving you."
