A home cook's meal preparation took took a terrifying turn when a tiny piece of onion root splintered off, lodged in her thumb and landed her in the emergency room. The unsuspecting victim explained she had been making arroz caldo, a chicken soup, when disaster struck. 'Grabbed an onion from the bin, and a bit from the dry root end of it splintered off into my thumb,' she recalled.
