Jason Bateman says he didn't undergo any special training to prepare for the action sequences in his new series Black Rabbit

"No specific training, but lots of stretching," he tells PEOPLE at the show's premiere in New York City

Bateman and Jude Law star as brothers in the crime thriller

Jason Bateman is ready for whatever comes his way!

The 56-year-old actor can be seen running around New York City and fighting off aggressive loan sharks in the new Netflix series Black Rabbit.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the show's premiere in New York City, Bateman says he didn't undergo any special training to prepare for the action sequences.

"No specific training, but lots of stretching," he says.

"Us old-timers need to make sure everything's loosened up," the Emmy winner adds with a laugh.

Jason Bateman and Jude Law attend Netflix's 'Black Rabbit' New York premiere on Sept. 16, 2025 in New York City.

The crime thriller, created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, takes place in New York City and follows two brothers. Jude Law plays Jake Friedken, a charismatic owner of the titular restaurant and bar, while Bateman plays Vince Friedken, who returns to his brother's business with trouble in tow. As it turns out, Vince owes $140,000 to his debtors and needs his brother's help.

The synopsis teases that the show "is a propulsive thrill ride and character examination about the way an unbreakable bond between two brothers can shatter their world — and everything in its orbit."

Bateman also executive produces the series with his partner Michael Costigan under Aggregate Films alongside Law with Ben Jackson for Riff Raff Entertainment.

At the same event, Law tells PEOPLE about his first impression of Bateman. "Honestly, for about a year and a half, we only met on Zoom when we were in the writing room or taking notes and giving notes on the scripts as they were being developed," he shares of the Ozark alum.

He praises Bateman for giving "great notes" and being "incredibly astute [and] funny" throughout the process of making the show.

"I knew he would be funny and smart," he gushes. "He's very Jason Bateman."

On the topic of physical training, the English actor compared working with Bateman to playing a sport in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Toronto International Film Festival. "It's very hard to describe. It's like you're playing a sport, but you're not trying to beat the other person, but you're trying to raise their game," Law said.

"And you are pushing the practice thinking, 'If I go this far, am I allowed to do this? Are you allowed to do that?' It was pretty clear, pretty quickly that we were on the same page," he continued.

Black Rabbit is now streaming on Netflix.
